Gender inequality in the work place is no secret, as much as women still face other multitude of challenges such as gender discrimination, unequal pay and many others

It is important to empower women because they bring a huge change in the societies they live in. The world has opened some career barriers which were a no go area for women.  They can now choose career of their choice without fear of “male dominating” the industry. They explore careers in engineering, programming and many more. Years back scientific courses were gender biased. Woman were not allowed to explore hence many girls’ dreams were not fulfilled because societies still saw some occupations as “male predominant”. Society had instilled that women belong in the kitchen therefore girls felt short to pursue their dreams, they were never encouraged.

Vodacom Lesotho’s MD Mr Mohale Ralebitso, outlined the importance of gender equality. He stipulated that 50% female are driving a major system. Everyone is given an equal opportunity and access to resources, regardless of gender, race, or socio-economic background.

Econet Telecom Lesotho held a workshop aimed at empowering women in an increasingly digital world. From the discussion that was held by ETL employees, women will be exposed to equal opportunities from a young age to their conduct of digital spaces and protecting themselves from cyber bullying or targeted hate crimes.
