While previous project was aimed at attracting foreign direct investment, CAFI is focused on building the local private sector. The past project of Private Sector Competitiveness is considered to be a true success story as it made significant strides on business regulation reform where government enacted business licensing and registration law and accompanying regulations
New law provides for among others familiarization of business, standardization of business and classification, and introduction of risks based licensing regime. This reform makes starting a business easier by removing requirement of health inspection and inspection of premises for all businesses. When fully implemented it will significantly reduce the time it takes to register a business.
When fully implemented the project will help improve the quality. Businesses will have access to machinery leased to them without owning the assets.
