MASERU – Letšeng Diamond Mine has on Sunday recovered an “exceptional” 122 carat D colour type II white diamond. This, Gem Diamonds, a company that owns Letšeng said in a statement. It is not clear at this stage how much the diamond will be sold for. The proceeds of the sale of this diamond will contribute to the government’s fiscus in the form of taxes, royalties and dividends.
In 2020, the government renewed the Gem Diamonds mine lease by 19 years, and further increased the diamond sales rates from 8 percent to 10 percent.
