Maseru – Econet Telecomm Lesotho (ETL) on March 1 launched their first chatbot called Mpoi. A chatbot is software that simulates human-like conversations with users via chat. Its key task is to answer user questions with instant messages.

Mpoi is expected to act as a virtual personal assistant that customers can access by saving the number +266 66100100 on their mobile phones and sending a message on WhatsApp. This platform can be accessed 24 hours a day.

Activities that Mpoi can perform include making seamless transactions like buying airtime and bundles, checking balance, sending and receiving money and getting answers to frequently asked questions. The chatbot developers have future hopes of advancing it to offering services like booking flights and completing contractual applications like Fibre application that would otherwise require them to visit ETL shops.
