Avalanche Consulting is bidding for a ground-breaking opportunity in one of the biggest water projects in the world currently in progress in Lesotho. This opportunity is still at bidding stage.

Avalanche Consulting invites CVs from Basotho for the following positions:

 

  1. Project Manager/Team Leader
  • Must have a relevant degree in Engineering or equivalent
  • Must be a Professional Engineer or Equivalent
  • Should have a post graduate qualification in Project Management or related disciplines
  • Should have experience in design/project management of access roads and bridges, water and sanitation and electrical distribution projects including off-grid systems in developing countries.
  • Should have a minimum of twenty (20) years relevant postgraduate experience
  • Should have at least ten (10) years’ experience leading the design and construction management of infrastructure projects as Project manager, Programme Manager, or Team

Leader.

  • Should have at least five (5) years’ experience in FIDIC contracts, or equivalent.
  • Should have substantial experience of working in African and/or similar developing countries.
  • Specific Tasks to include:

— Team Leader for the duration of the project, full-time in Lesotho during Stage 1 and up to completion of detailed design.

— Client Liaison and Contract Administration

— Responsible for the proper performance and management of all project activities in accordance with the Contract including engineering, safety, occupational health, environmental and quality management.

 

  1. Lead Design: Water and Sanitation and Wastewater Management.
  • Must have a degree in Civil Engineering, Water Engineering or Equivalent
  • Should be a Professional Engineer
  • Should have master’s degree in water/wastewater engineering, environmental engineering.
  • Should have at least 15 years post graduate experience in Civil Engineering Works.
  • Should have a minimum of 10 years design experience in developing countries in rural water and sanitation/wastewater,
  • Should have a minimum of 5 years leading water and sanitation design teams.
  • Specific Tasks to include:

— Lead the water and Sanitation design team,

— Oversee and conduct water and sanitation designs and documentation for the works

— Technical support to site team during construction

 

  1. Water Treatment Works Specialist
  • Must have a degree in Civil Engineering, Water Engineering or Equivalent
  • Should be and be a Professional Engineer
  • Should have at least 15 years post graduate experience in Civil Engineering Works.
  • Should have a minimum of five (5) years design experience in developing countries.
  • Should have a minimum of five (5) years designing and or leading water treatment works
  • design teams.
  • Specific Tasks to include:

— Designs of Water Treatment systems from intake to supply,

— Technical support to site team during construction

  1. Quantity Surveyor Civil Works
  • Must have a degree in Civil Engineering or Quantity Surveying
  • Should be a Professional Engineer or equivalent registered professional
  • Should have a minimum of fifteen (15) years post graduate experience in Civil Engineering

Works.

  • Should have at least ten (10) years’ experience as Contracts Engineer/Quantity Surveyor in major civil works Feeder Roads and Bridges.
  • Should have at least ten (10) years’ experience in FIDIC contracts.
  • Specific Tasks to include:

— Produce tender/contract documents, including conditions of contract, bills of quantities and method of measurement.

  1. Senior Roads Geometric Design Engineer
  • Must have a degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent
  • Should be a Professional Engineer
  • Should have at least fifteen years post-graduate experience in Civil Engineering Works.
  • Should have at least ten (10) years’ experience in geometric designs of major roads
  • including demonstrable expertise in the design of major roads in mountainous terrains.
  • Should have led design teams for at least five (5) years.
  • Specific Tasks to include:

— Roadway geometric design specialist for the design team,

— Oversee and conduct roadway geometric designs and documentation for the works

— Technical support to site team during construction

  1. Senior Roads Pavement Design Engineer
  • Must have a degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent
  • Should be a Professional Engineer.
  • Should have at a minimum of fifteen (15) years post graduate experience in Civil Engineering

Works.

  • Should have at least ten (10) years’ experience in pavement designs of major roads including demonstrable expertise in the design of major roads in mountainous/high altitude terrains.
  • Should have led design teams for at least five (5) years.
  • Specific Tasks to include:

— Roadway pavement design specialist for the design team,

— Oversee and conduct roadway pavement designs and documentation for the works

— Technical support to site team during construction

  1. Senior Bridge Design Engineer
  • Must have a degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent
  • Must be a Professional Engineer
  • Should have at least fifteen (15) years’ involvement in the design and construction of major bridges.
  • Specific Tasks to include:

— Senior bridge design specialist for the design team,

— Oversee and conduct bridge designs and documentation for the works

— Technical support to site team during construction

  1. Senior Engineering Geologist/Geotechnical Engineer (design stage)
  • Must have a degree in Engineering Geology or equivalent
  • Should be Professionally Registered (SACNASP, or approved equivalent).
  • Should have at least ten (10) years’ involvement in the site investigation, design and construction of major civil works including bridges and associated roadways.
  • Should have experience of investigation, classification and excavation in basalt rock.
  • Specific Tasks to include:

— Geological specialist for the design team,

— Review and synthesis of all available geological and geotechnical information.

— Specification and oversight of the Geotechnical Investigation

— Preparation of Geotechnical Investigation Interpretive Report

— Support for geotechnical design.

— Technical support to site team during construction.

  1. Senior Electrical Design Engineer
  • Must have a degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • Must be a Professional Engineer.
  • Should have at a minimum of fifteen (15) years post graduate experience in Electrical
  • Engineering Works.
  • Should have at least ten (10) years’ experience in rural electrification designs.
  • Should have expertise in the design and supervision of electrical distribution in mountainous terrains.
  • Should have led design teams for at least five (5) years.
  • Should have at least 5 years of similar experience in planning, design and/or operation of on-grid and off-grid distribution systems in developing countries.
  • Should have participated in at least one similar assignment for preparation of a power master plan or energy sector development strategies in developing countries.
  • Specific Tasks to include:

— Roadway geometric design specialist for the design team,

— Oversee and conduct roadway geometric designs and documentation for the works

— Technical support to site team during construction

  1. Contracts Engineer -Electrical
  • Must have a degree in Electrical Engineering or Quantity Surveying
  • Should be a Professional Engineer, Professional Quantity Surveyor or equivalent registered professional.
  • Should have a minimum of fifteen (15) years post graduate experience in Electrical Engineering

Works.

  • Should have at least ten (10) years’ experience as Contracts Engineer/Quantity Surveyor in

Electricity distribution projects.

  • Should have at least five (5) years’ experience in FIDIC contracts.
  • Specific Tasks to include:

— Produce tender/contract documents, including conditions of contract, bills of quantities and method of measurement.

— Procurement processes for construction contracts

  1. Environmental Specialist
  • Must have a degree in Environmental Studies, or equivalent.
  • Should have a minimum of ten (10) years’ post qualification experience.
  • Should have at least five (5) years’ experience dealing with environmental management and mitigation issues in engineering contracts.
  • Should be a registered professional with a relevant institution (SACNASP, or approved
  • equivalent).
  • Specific Tasks to include:

— Preparation of final EMP and environmental specifications.

  1. Project Programmer/Planner
  • Should have a degree in Engineering or equivalent.
  • Should have at least ten (10) years post graduate experience in Engineering Works.
  • Should have at least five (5) years’ Planning experience in Engineering construction projects.
  • Must be proficient in Primavera P6.
  • Must have at least 2 years’ experience in claims analysis
  • Specific Tasks to include:

— Full-time in Lesotho during design and construction.

— Contract and Project programming, including claims assessments.

  1. Renewable Energy Engineer (Electrical/Mechatronics or Equivalent)
  • Must have a degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering,
  • Mechatronics Engineering or Equivalent
  • Should be a Professional Engineering Technologist or equivalent registered professional.
  • Should have a minimum of five (5) years post graduate experience in the design of
  • Renewable Energy systems including Solar Systems.
  • Should have at least five (5) years’ experience in developing countries/similar environment.
  • Specific Tasks to include:

– Design of alternative electrification systems including solar systems for the villages

– Prepare bills of quantities and method of measurement and costs estimates

– Provide technical support during construction supervision

  1. Chief Resident Engineer
  • Must have a degree in Civil Engineering or Equivalent.
  • Must be a registered Professional Engineer.
  • Should have at least twenty (20) years post-graduate experience in multi-disciplinary engineering works including roads, bridges, water and sanitation and electrification projects.
  • Should have at least ten (10) years’ experience leading construction supervision teams.
  • Should have at least five (5) years’ experience in FIDIC contracts.
  • Specific Tasks to include:

— Full time on site leading Construction Supervision Teams

— Liaise with relevant local authorities and other consultants.

— Effective management of all construction contracts

  1. Senior Contracts Engineer (construction stage)
  • Must have a degree in Civil Engineering or Quantity Surveying or Equivalent
  • Should be a Professional Quantity Surveyor, Engineer or approved equivalent
  • Should have at least ten (10) years post-graduate experience in Engineering Works.
  • Should have at least five (5) years’ experience as Contracts Engineer/Quantity Surveyor in
  • Engineering Works similar to this scope
  • Should have five (5) years’ experience in FIDIC contracts

— Monthly measurement and payment certificate.

— Claims assessment.

— Responsible for dealing with all contractual issues including but limited to claims assessments, determinations etc.

  1. Resident Engineers (six positions, two for each theme.)
  • Should have a degree in Engineering relevant to the proposed position
  • Should be a Professional Engineering Technologist or equivalent.
  • Should have at least ten (10) years postgraduate experience in Engineering Works.
  • Should have at least five (5) years’ experience as Resident Engineer on engineering construction projects, with experience relevant to the position proposed.
  • Should have at least two (2) years’ experience in FIDIC contracts
  • Specific Tasks to include:

— Lead appropriate section of the Construction Supervision team

— Full time on site during construction supervision

  1. Environmental and Social Manager (construction stage)
  • Must have a degree in Environmental Studies, or equivalent
  • Should have a minimum of ten (10) years’ post qualification experience.
  • Should have at least five (5) years’ experience dealing with environmental and social management and mitigation issues in engineering construction contracts.
  • Should be a registered professional with a relevant institution (SACNASP, or approved equivalent).

— Environmental and social monitoring during construction

— Monthly environmental and social reporting to the Client

— Facilitation of resolution of community complaints

— Liaison between the Client and affected communities

— Support to the RE team during construction

  1. Occupational Health and Safety Manager (construction stage)
  • Should have at a minimum fifteen (15) years post qualification experience in civil engineering works.
  • Should have at least ten (10) years’ experience in Occupational Health & Safety in construction projects of similar nature.
  • Should have an accredited qualification in Occupational Health & Safety or similar.
  • Should be a registered professional Occupational Health & Safety professional,
  • Specific Tasks to include:

— Full-time in Lesotho during construction.

— Monitoring of the contractors’ OH&S systems & implementation.

— Support to the RE team on OH&S on site.

  1. GIS Specialist
  • Should have at least a diploma in land survey, geographic information systems, computer science or equivalent.
  • Should have at a minimum ten (10) years post qualification experience in land surveying and

GIS based planning and designing in the field of electrification systems and civil engineering works.

  • GIS certification a plus
  • Should have at least two (2) years’ experience developing countries with experience working in remote and rural areas.
  • Specific Tasks to include:

— Lead all survey, GIS and Mapping activities.

— Collecting information from existing studies.

— Develop and maintain detailed GIS database for all schemes.

— Responsible for preparation of maps for implementation for infrastructure in all three themes.

TECHNICAL SUPPORT STAFF

  1. Drainage and Hydraulic Design Engineer
  • Should have at least ten (10) years’ involvement in hydraulic analysis, drainage design and the design and construction of hydraulic structures.
  • Must have a degree in Civil Engineering and be a Professional Engineer or equivalent registered professional.
  • Specific Tasks to include:

— Drainage and Hydraulic specialist for the design team,

— Oversee and conduct drainage and hydraulic analysis and design and documentation for the works

  1. Solar Systems Installation Technician/ Engineer
  • Must have a diploma in installation of Solar systems or equivalent training.
  • Should have at least five years post qualification in installing Renewable Energy systems including Solar Systems.
  • Should have at least five (5) years’ experience designing solar energy systems networks.
  • Should have at least two (2) years’ experience in developing countries/similar environment.
  • Specific Tasks to include:

— Supervision of Solar systems for the villages

  1. Hydrologist
  • Should have at least ten (10) years’ involvement in flood hydrology.
  • Must have a degree in Civil Engineering and be a Professional Engineer or equivalent registered professional.
  • Specific Tasks to include:

— Hydrology specialist for the design team.

— Oversee and conduct hydrological analysis and documentation for the Works.

  1. Occupational Health and Safety Specialist (design stage)
  • Should have at a minimum fifteen (15) years’ post qualification experience in civil engineering and tunnelling construction Works.
  • Should have at least ten (10) years’ experience in Health & Safety on civil engineering,
  • Should have an accredited diploma in Civil Engineering or similar technical qualification.
  • Must have accredited Health & Safety qualifications.
  1. Quality Systems Manager
  • Should have at a least ten (10) years’ post qualification experience.
  • Should have at least five (5) years’ experience dealing with quality management systems to

ISO 9001 on engineering projects.

  • Must have an accredited diploma in an appropriate field or similar qualification.
  • Should have accredited Quality Management qualifications.
  • Specific Tasks to include:

— Establishment of an approved Quality Management System for the design stage to ISO 9001

— Establishment of an approved Quality Management System for the construction stage to ISO

9001.

— Review and audit of the Consultant’s QMS implementation

— Review and audit of the contractors’ QMS

  1. Materials Engineer/Technologist
  • Should have at a minimum of fifteen (15) years’ post qualification experience in Engineering Works.
  • Should have at least ten (10) years’ experience in civil engineering works including bridges and roads.
  • Should have experience of managing site materials testing laboratory.
  • Must have at least a National Diploma or Btech Eng in Materials Sciences or other appropriate higher qualification, should be at least a Professional Engineering Technician or Professional

Engineering Technologist.

  • Specific Tasks to include:

— All materials requirements for the works,

— Management of the site materials testing laboratory.

 

  1. urveyor
  • Should have at minimum ten (10) years post qualification experience in Civil Engineering

Works.

  • Should have at least five (5) years’ experience as a surveyor in construction of roads and major structures.
  • Must have a National Diploma or equivalent in Surveying.
  • Specific Tasks to include:

— All survey requirements for the works.

  1. Assistant Resident Engineers (six positions, one per contract)
  • Should have a degree in Engineering
  • Should have at a minimum of three (3) years post graduate experience in Engineering Works.
  • Should have at least two (2) years’ experience working on site on engineering construction projects.
  • Specific Tasks to include:

— Assistant Resident Engineer

— Full time on site during construction supervision

  1. FIDIC Engineer

Should have served on at least three (3) comparable projects as the FIDIC Engineer.

The Engineer shall be available as required throughout the project.
