Tanki Sehapi, an emerging videographer, is currently establishing his presence in Lesotho’s dynamic arts scene.

With his mobile phone and a keen eye for details, he is capturing the beauty of everyday moments, transforming them into compelling visual narratives that speak to a generation raised on digital storytelling.

Media’s new landscape allows creatives to tell stories on their own terms and videographers are at the forefront of this shift. Blending arts and technology, they are capturing the rhythm of everyday life in ways that feel both personal and powerful.

From his high school life, where he would take pictures of his schoolmates neatly wearing their school uniform, Sehapi drew inspiration to become a professional videographer, snapping music videos, private events and behind-the-scenes images of himself modelling.

“In high school, I used to take pictures of my schoolmates and their compliments after capturing those impressive shots, ignited my passion for videography,” he recalled.

Being a self-taught videographer, Sehapi keeps honing his skills by watching online tutorials. He emphasised that he keeps experiencing new things in his daily shoots and identifying areas for improvement in his projects.

“When I am working on a project and I realise that this product needs a certain shot and I am not confident about it, I turn to YouTube or TikTok for assistance,” he shared.

When working with clients, he ensures that a customer is always satisfied as the whole shooting is about them. He has them clearly state how they want their videos to be, whether cinematic, with basic touches or just saturated.

He also spoke about the importance of cooperation and competence.

“As I deliver quality services to the clients, they also have to keep their end of the deal. It is very frustrating to have a client change their demands on the shooting day,” he remarked.

He said this on the grounds that when preparing for shooting, he crafts his scripts, showing the types of shots that he will capture and having clients change their vision at the last minute can disrupt his ability to effectively deliver what he promised.

Sehapi’s favourite project has been shooting an event at Pandora’s Secret because he got a chance to network and connect with the people he needed for his growth. While his most challenging cover was having to capture a music video promotion that came right from imagination and had to be brought to life.

He, however, still managed to impress his client.

“The most challenging project that I have worked on has to be when I had to shoot a music video promo of one local artiste who had every concept for the shoot imagined. It was very difficult, but I managed to pull it through,” he said.

He enjoys capturing the behind-the-scenes videos of himself modelling, trying to tell a story through pictures and one of those moments is etched in his head to this day. “I find it a very proud moment to have captured because I detailed everything that I wanted to display,” he stated.

Youths like Sehapi are proving that passion and dedication can turn into a blaze, just like how he turned a simple smartphone into a powerful tool for storytelling. Through his lens, everyday moments are elevated into lasting memories, showcasing not only his artistic flair but also the endless possibilities within the world of videography.
