The Tycoon Series Film Academy celebrated its 10th anniversary by awarding distinguished Basotho actors. This prestigious event brought together the crème de la crème of the Sesotho film industry to honour and celebrate the icons who have made lasting contributions to the art of storytelling in the Sesotho language.
The event was not just a celebration of the Academy’s achievements over the past decade, but also a tribute to the rich cultural heritage and artistic excellence of the Sesotho-speaking community.
The Tycoon Series Film Academy has been at the forefront of promoting Sesotho language and culture through film. Over the past ten years, the Academy has produced numerous films and series that have resonated with audiences both locally and internationally. Their commitment to nurturing talent and providing a platform for Sesotho filmmakers has been unwavering, and this event was a testament to their dedication and hard work.
In her address, Candile Tšoana, Manager of the Tycoon Series Film Academy, warmly welcomed and acknowledged the Class of 2024 for their incredible dedication and resilience. She emphasised that the Tycoon Series Film Academy is open to everyone who can read and write, fostering a community of inclusivity and opportunity.
Candile proudly highlighted the academy’s commitment to nurturing talent and providing comprehensive education, offering both certifications and advanced certificates.
Candile commended the Class of 2024 for their exceptional efforts and hard work throughout their journey. She encouraged them to carry forward the lessons learned and the relationships built during their time at the academy. She expressed her unwavering belief in their potential to achieve greatness and wished them success in all their future endeavors.
One of the standout moments of the evening was the grand presentation of awards celebrating the achievements of the Lesotho film industry. The prestigious Best TV Soapy Award was presented to the beloved series “Lekunutu,” which captivated audiences with its compelling storytelling and memorable characters.
The Best Actress Award was proudly bestowed upon Relebohile Mafisa, whose remarkable performances and talent. Her dedication and talent have set a new standard in the industry, earning her well-deserved recognition.
In addition, the Best Student Film Award was awarded to “Setlhare,” a film that showcased the incredible potential and creativity of the new generation of filmmakers. The project stood out for its innovative approach and powerful narrative, promising a bright future for its creators.
The Guest of Honour, Oscar award-winning actor Israel Matseke Zulu, who is famously known for his roles in “Yizo-Yizo,” “Isibaya,” and “Nikiwe,” in his remarks shared his vision when he first embarked on his acting career, expressing his desire to put his family, his hometown of Alexandra, and himself on the map.
Israel emphasised the importance of believing in oneself and never underestimating one’s own abilities. He encouraged Basotho actors to seize the opportunities available to them in Lesotho, instead of succumbing to the notion that such opportunities do not exist.
He underscored the significance of hard work and determination in achieving one’s dreams.
Addressing the youth, Israel urged them to always remember their roots and never shy away from their fears. He shared a piece of wisdom, stating, “If you do something and it does not benefit you, do not do it.”
