Botho University marked a significant milestone in its commitment to providing quality education with the inauguration of its new campus at Ha Penapena in Maseru on 14th February. The event was a grand affair, attended by esteemed guests, including Queen ‘Masenate Seeiso, former Prime Minister Dr. Pakalitha Mosisili, Deputy Speaker in the National Assembly Hon. Matlhonolofatso Tšepang Tšita-Mosena, and Minister of Education Hon. Ntoi Rapapa, among others.

Dr. Sheela Raja Ram, the Vice-Chancellor of Botho University, shared the challenges faced in the search for suitable land to establish the new campus. She emphasized that despite these obstacles, Botho University found a valuable partner in Standard Lesotho Bank, whose support played an essential role in realizing this vision.

“We have been searching for suitable land to establish this school but met with numerous challenges. Despite that, we found a partner in Standard Lesotho Bank, whose support has been instrumental in bringing our vision to life,” said Dr. Raja Ram.

Dr. Raja Ram stressed that the campus is where students will learn, grow, and innovate. She added that Botho University’s student exchange program provides Basotho students with opportunities to learn in other countries such as the USA, India, and South Africa. This program aims to broaden their horizons and foster a global perspective.

Queen ‘Masenate Seeiso expressed her gratitude to all those who have recognized the importance of investing in education. She urged continued commitment to supporting the youth and their future.

“I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all those who have recognized the importance of investing in education. Your support is invaluable, and I urge you to continue your commitment to our youth and their future,” she said during her speech.

In his remarks, Minister of Education and Training, Hon. Ntoi Rapapa, attested that this is not just the opening of another learning facility but a testament to perseverance, commitment, and innovation in providing quality education for Basotho.

He then acknowledged the sacrifices made by the faculty and university management under challenging circumstances.

“To the lecturers and university management, I salute you for your unwavering commitment to continuing to provide quality education,” he stated.

The new campus at Ha Penapena is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including modern classrooms, laboratories, a library, and recreational areas, designed to enhance the learning experience for students. It is envisioned to be a hub of academic excellence, fostering innovation and research that will contribute to the socio-economic development of Lesotho.

On behalf of students, Boithatelo acknowledged management of Botho for their commitment in giving them the best education, “We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has contributed to making this new campus a reality. Your dedication and hard work have given us a space where we can flourish,” Said Boithatelo.

She highlighted that they are committed to making the most of the opportunities this new campus offers. Together, we will strive for excellence in all our endeavors. “With this new beginning, we aim to achieve our academic and personal goals and contribute positively to society.”

The inauguration of Botho University’s new campus marks a new chapter in its journey towards excellence in higher education, demonstrating its dedication to empowering the youth of Lesotho with the knowledge and skills necessary for their future success.
