MASERU- King Letsie III and Queen ‘Masenate Mohato Seeiso neé Karabo Motšoene celebrated the silver jubilee yesterday.

King Letsie III and Queen ‘Masenate Mohato Seeiso, celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary. This silver jubilee not only commemorates a quarter-century of marital harmony.

On February 18 2000, King Letsie III tied the knot with Karabo who became Queen ‘Masenate Mohato Seeiso.

Their union was said to be historic as Queen ‘Masenate was not from the Royal family.

Their wedding ceremony took place in  a fanfare of activities at Setsoto Stadium witnessed by thousands of guests including high profile figures such as President Nelson Mandela and then Prince of Wales, now King Charles III.

The royal couple’s journey began some years after His Majesty’s ascension to the throne.

His Majesty got engaged to Miss Karabo Mots’oeneng, the eldest daughter of Thekiso and ‘Makarabo Motšoeneng from Leribe, on October 23, 1999.

His coronation on 31 October 1997 at Setsoto Stadium.

Their Majesties are blessed with three children: Princess Senate, born on October 7, 2001, Princess ‘Maseeiso, born on November 20, 2004, and Prince Lerotholi, born on April 18, 2007.

Throughout their reign, their Majesties have exemplified leadership and compassion.

Their commitment to addressing pressing issues such as HIV/AIDS has been evident, with King Letsie III declaring the epidemic a national disaster in 2000, prompting both national and international responses.

Their Majesties are actively involved in social causes, serving as patrons of various institutions and engaging in philanthropic work to support vulnerable communities, particularly children.

Queen ‘Masenate is deeply committed to advocating against child marriage and menstrual hygiene for the girl child. Meanwhile, His Majesty the King is actively involved in championing nutrition and food security.

Together, they dedicate themselves to uplifting their nation through these and many other impactful initiatives.

As the royal couple celebrates this significant milestone, the people of Lesotho and well-wishers from around the world have flooded social media with heartfelt messages.
