In the heart of Ha Matala, a dream born from hardship has blossomed into a thriving business. Mathabo Liphoto, the owner of Kaytee Guest House, has successfully navigated the challenging journey of entrepreneurship in the hospitality industry. Since its establishment in October 2019, the guest house has become a testament to resilience, innovation, and community-driven growth.

Mathabo’s entrepreneurial spirit was evident long before the guest house. However, it was the tragic loss of her husband that ignited her drive to create a secure and nurturing environment for her children. Initially, she built a house in Ha Matala, hoping it would provide a safe space for her family.

Yet, as she soon discovered, the proximity to a busy road posed risks to her children’s safety. It was this challenge that ultimately led her to transform her property into Kaytee Guest House, marking the beginning of a new chapter.

Starting a business in the hospitality sector was no easy feat. Mathabo faced numerous obstacles, especially in understanding the intricacies of the industry. One of the most significant challenges she encountered was the lengthy and difficult process of obtaining a hospitality license and registering the business. Despite these setbacks, Mathabo’s determination and vision remained unwavering.

However, the road ahead was not without further hurdles. In early 2020, just after investing all her savings into the guest house, the COVID-19 pandemic struck, forcing businesses around the world into lockdown. Mathabo was no exception. The pandemic temporarily shut down Kaytee Guest House, and she faced the financial strain of keeping the business afloat in uncertain times. Nevertheless, she weathered the storm, holding on to her faith.

Through these trials, Mathabo’s business began to evolve. Kaytee Guest House slowly expanded its services, offering event hosting, décor, and catering. The once small operation now employs 10 staff members, including two professional chefs, marking a significant increase from just two employees in its early days.

Looking ahead, Mathabo has big dreams for the future of Kaytee. She envisions the guest house growing into a full-fledged hotel, with additional branches across Lesotho. Her ambition is fueled by the belief that she can provide a high-quality service that not only supports her family but also gives back to the community that has supported her throughout her journey.

Mathabo’s heartfelt message to the people of Lesotho is one of gratitude. She acknowledges that the growth of Kaytee Guest House would not have been possible without the ongoing support of the local community. In return, she is committed to giving back, by ensuring that her business continues to offer exceptional services.

As Kaytee Guest House continues to grow, Mathabo Liphoto remains a shining example of perseverance, vision, and the power of community. Her story serves as an inspiration to all aspiring entrepreneurs, proving that even in the face of adversity, dedication and hard work can turn dreams into reality.
