Econet Telecom Lesotho (ETL) has once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to the welfare of the nation’s youth by making a generous donation to students in need during the 2025 Back-2-School Campaign.
The company provided essential school supplies to vulnerable children from Mazenod Primary School, ensuring that they start the new school year equipped for success.
At an event held at Mazenod High School, Econet presented 30 school uniforms, 52 pairs of school shoes, and 52 pairs of socks, items valued at over M20,000. This timely donation aims to alleviate the financial burdens that many families face, allowing children to attend school with dignity and confidence.
The event, which was attended by distinguished guests, including the Minister of Information, Communications, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Hon. Nthati Moorosi, underscored the importance of education and the role corporate entities play in advancing community development.
The Minister applauded Econet’s continued support for the Ministry of Education and Training’s Back-2-School campaign, praising the company for its dedication to improving educational access and academic success.
“We are deeply grateful for this donation,” said Mr. Koenene Koenene, Principal of Mazenod Primary School. “Econet’s contribution comes at a pivotal moment, just as schools have reopened. This gesture not only provides immediate relief to our students but also inspires hope and reinforces the vital role education plays in shaping brighter futures.”
In addition to the donation of school supplies, Econet Telecom Lesotho further highlighted its dedication to promoting academic excellence. During the ceremony, the company presented 12 Econet Prime 4G smartphones to the Minister of Communications.
These smartphones were awarded to 12 outstanding students and teachers from Mapetla High School, Masianokeng High School, Mazenod High School, and Bishop de Mazenod High School. The awards recognised the academic achievements of these individuals, particularly in the recently published LGCSE examination results.
Mrs. Puleng ‘Mathabo Masoabi, Acting GM for Marketing Communications and Customer Experience at Econet Telecom Lesotho, expressed the company’s pride in being part of such an important initiative. “We are honoured to support this social impact initiative,” she said.
Further stating that through the loyalty of ETL’s customers, Econet is able to provide immediate assistance to students in need, while celebrating the academic excellence that will inspire the next generation of leaders.
Hon. Nthati Moorosi, the Minister of Information, Communications, Science, Technology, and Innovation, commended Econet for its impactful initiative.
“Econet Telecom Lesotho continues to set the benchmark for corporate social responsibility in Lesotho. Their support to children’s education through its social impact organisation known as HigherLife Foundation is unparalleled. In addition to that, the company continues to support our annual Back-2-School campaign when we recognise and reward academic excellence to encourage more students and educators to strive for excellence. I encourage other corporates to follow this example,” she stated.
By investing in education and supporting deserving students, Econet is helping to lay the groundwork for a brighter future for Lesotho. Their commitment to supporting vulnerable communities and promoting educational excellence sets a powerful example for corporate social responsibility, inspiring others to contribute to the nation’s development.
