The Chess Federation of Lesotho (CFL) successfully held the 2025 Pre Lesotho-Open tournament, showcasing a vibrant chess scene brimming with talent and competitive spirit. The event attracted a diverse field of players, ranging from promising young talents to seasoned veterans, competing across two sections: Open and Development.
The Development Section, designed to nurture young talent, witnessed a thrilling display of skill also determination. Liteboho Sello emerged as the undisputed champion, capturing the gold medal with a dominant performance. Abele Mokoma followed closely, securing the silver medal, while Fako Letsie rounded out the podium with a bronze medal finish. These young players demonstrated exceptional tactical acumen and strategic thinking, auguring well for the future of chess in Lesotho.
The Open Section, however, proves to be a true battleground for the country’s top chess minds. Ts’ephe Lebajoa emerged as the undisputed champion, showcasing exceptional tactical prowess and strategic depth. Their impressive performance, concluding in a score of 5 points, earned them a well-deserved cash worth M1000.00. Sechaba Khalema, with a strong showing of 4.5 points, secured second place and a cash worth M600.00.
The battle for third place saw a thrilling four-way tie between Lihloela Motlomelo, Mahommed George, Mphane Thabang, and Motsamai Bokang. Each player demonstrated exceptional skill and resilience, ultimately finishing with a score of 4 points. To acknowledge their outstanding performances, each player received a cash amount of M80.00.
Beyond the competitive aspect, the 2025 Pre Lesotho Open serves as a platform to showcase the enduring appeal of chess as a sport that transcends age and background.
