MASERU
-The French Institute of South Africa and Alliance Française de Maseru, in collaboration with the Lesotho Tourism Festival (LETOFE) and U.S. Embassy in Lesotho, are proud to announce a unique opportunity for the youth aged 18- 25 in Lesotho. A two-day intensive training program that aims to provide aspiring 17 artists with the necessary skills to succeed in the live music industry. It is completely free of charge!
This initiative, organized by the French Institute of South Africa (IFAS) and Alliance Française de Maseru (AFM), with support from LETOFE and the U.S. Embassy in Lesotho, is a testament to their commitment towards the growth and development of the local music scene. It is a one-of-a-kind opportunity for the youth of Lesotho to enhance their artistic abilities and gain essential insights into the music industry.
“Live Music Lab is about creating opportunities, nurturing talent, and amplifying voices that deserve to be heard, which is a priority for France in Lesotho”, says the Director of the Alliance Française de Maseru, Mrs. Elisabeth Douillet. “Lesotho’s music scene holds incredible potential, and we ‘re excited to be involved in helping young artists unlock it.”
Live Music Lab Maseru continues the 25-year legacy of collaboration between Bassline and IFAS, fostering inclusivity and excellence in the African music landscape.
Mr. Brad Holmes of Bassline mentions that, “This Programme is more than just a workshop- it is a launch pad for young creatives looking to tum their passion into thriving career in music. This edition celebrates Lesotho’s vibrant heritage while equipping its youth with the skills and confidence to succeed.”
The focus of this program is on four five areas – bass, drums, guitar, vocals, and DJing. The organizers have carefully selected experienced and accomplished musicians to conduct the training sessions. 17 selected participants among 30 will have the opportunity to learn from the very best in the industry and gain a deeper understanding of their chosen instrument. The trainers will also provide invaluable tips and techniques to master the art of live performance.
But the program goes beyond just music training. It also includes essential business know-how to navigate the live music industry. Participants will learn about the business side of the music world, including management, marketing, and networking. These skills are crucial for any artist looking to make a name for themselves in the competitive music industry, and the program aims to equip them with the necessary tools to succeed.
Moreover, the program also offers a platform for networking and collaboration among the participants. This provides an opportunity for like-minded individuals to come together, exchange ideas, and possibly form future partnerships that could lead to exciting music projects.
This collaboration between the IFAS, AFM, LETOFE, and the U.S. Embassy in Lesotho is a prime example of how different organisations can come together to support and empower the youth. The program aims to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical experience, giving participants a well-rounded understanding of the music industry.
But why focus on the live music industry specifically? The answer is simple – live music has become an integral part of modern culture, and it continues to grow and evolve. In Lesotho, the music scene is thriving, and there is a wealth of talented artists waiting to be discovered. This program provides a perfect platform for these young artists to hone their skills and take their music to the next level.
Moreover, the live music industry has a significant economic impact, creating job opportunities for a diverse range of people. By providing training and support to the youth, this program not only helps them pursue their passion but also contributes to the growth of the local economy.
IFAS and AFM, along with their partners, are committed to nurturing the next generation of artists in Lesotho. This training program is just one of the many initiatives they have undertaken to promote the local music scene. They also regularly organise concerts, workshops, and other events to showcase the talent of young Basotho artists to a wider audience.
