The event, which took place at the supermarket’s premises, was not merely a celebration of business growth but also an opportunity to express gratitude and engage with the very people who have supported the establishment since its inception.
The anniversary festivities were filled with meaningful gestures aimed at acknowledging the efforts of both the loyal customers and employees who have played a significant role in Delight Supermarket’s success. To express their appreciation, loyal customers Ms Malehlohonolo Maoela, Mathabang Sekeloane and Thulo were presented with a variety of thoughtful gifts, reinforcing the supermarket’s commitment to building lasting relationships with the people it serves.
Moreover, the event spotlighted the hard work of the supermarket’s staff. The best-performing employee of the year Ms. Sebabatso Sello was awarded a special accolade, including a certificate of recognition. This gesture underscored Delight’s appreciation for the employees’ dedication and their contribution to making Delight Supermarket a preferred shopping destination in the region.
Motjopi Molise, the Managing Director of Delight Supermarket, delivered a speech in which he reflected on the challenges and triumphs the supermarket had experienced over its first year of operations. He acknowledged some of the hurdles, including financial constraints and challenges with product consistency from the small, micro, and medium enterprises (SMMEs) that supply the store.
Molise noted, however, that despite these obstacles, Delight Supermarket had achieved significant milestones. He proudly mentioned the increasing number of customers and emphasized the supermarket’s ongoing efforts to contribute to the growth of Lesotho’s economy, praising the staff for their exceptional service.
One of the standout features of the anniversary event was Delight Supermarket’s effort to highlight the importance of SMMEs in Lesotho’s economic development. Recognizing the critical role these businesses play, the supermarket used the anniversary celebration as a platform for local entrepreneurs to showcase their products. Several SMMEs were invited to display their offerings, with the opportunity to network and interact with potential customers. This initiative is part of Delight’s broader vision of not just being a retail hub but also a catalyst for the development of the local economy. By empowering small businesses, Delight is reinforcing its commitment to fostering entrepreneurship and promoting economic growth.
The anniversary celebrations featured an array of exciting activities, including live entertainment, product exhibitions, and interactive community engagements. Customers turned out in large numbers to enjoy a lively atmosphere, full of fun activities, entertainment, and the chance to explore a range of local products. It was not only a time to commemorate Delight Supermarket’s success but also a chance to connect with the community, strengthen relationships, and showcase the supermarket’s long-term dedication to being an integral part of the local neighbourhood.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Peshoane Tsikoane chairman of the board Jabula Giants Investment Group expressed heartfelt thanks to the community for their unwavering support over the past year. “Today’s celebration is a reflection of the trust and loyalty our customers have shown to Delight, and it’s a way of saying ‘thank you’ to everyone who has contributed to the success of Delight,” said Tsikoane. “We are committed to continuing our journey of excellence, providing great service, and creating growth opportunities for local businesses.”
Mr. Lehlohonolo Chefa, representing the Lesotho Enterprise Assistance Programme (LEAP), also delivered remarks during the anniversary celebrations. LEAP, a Matching Grant Scheme designed to help enterprises in Lesotho increase their competitiveness, has invested significantly in Delight Supermarket, covering up to 80% of the supermarket’s eligible expenses. Chefa congratulated Delight Supermarket on its achievements, highlighting the supermarket’s role as a key player in supporting the growth of small businesses and contributing to the national economy.
In a heartfelt speech, Mrs. Malehlohonolo Martins, an SMME representative, expressed her gratitude towards Delight Supermarket for offering local businesses a platform to sell their products. Martins also shared that her participation in the anniversary event had opened her eyes to the opportunities offered by LEAP, which could further help local entrepreneurs grow their businesses. She wished continued success for Delight Supermarket and called for divine blessings to help the supermarket continue its support of small businesses.
Mr. Molise Ramaili, the Manager of the Lesotho National Development Corporation (LNDC), emphasized that it is high time for Lesotho’s economy to transition towards a more private sector-driven model. He highlighted the crucial role that Small, Medium, and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) must play in this shift, urging that these businesses focus on expanding their reach beyond the local market and increase their export activities.
Ramaili stressed that LNDC is committed to supporting businesses, particularly those like Delight, which are dedicated to empowering SMMEs. Through strategic partnerships and targeted initiatives, LNDC aims to equip these enterprises with the necessary tools and resources to thrive in the competitive global market, thereby fostering economic growth and job creation within Lesotho.
As Delight Supermarket embarks on its second year of operations, the supermarket has promised to continue prioritizing its customers and community engagement. Its vision for the future remains focused on supporting SMMEs, offering exceptional service, and expanding its role as a hub for local economic development. The anniversary event, while celebrating a year of progress, also served as a springboard for future growth and more impactful initiatives in the years to come.
