-Excitement and anticipation filled the air as the Lesotho Girls Under-20 team departed for Johannesburg on Sunday, ready to represent their country in the highly anticipated COSAFA Women’s Under-20 Championship. With the tournament set to kick-off on November 19th, the team is determined to make their mark and bring home victory.
Led by coach Elizabeth Yelimana, the team is comprised of 20 talented and dedicated young women who are eager to showcase their skills on the field. They will face their first opponents, Zambia, on Tuesday at UJ Stadium, followed by a match against the host country, South Africa, on Friday 22nd. Their final two matches will be against Botswana and Mozambique, as the five nations battle it out for the championship title.
The Lesotho Under-20 squad is a strong and well-balanced team, with players from various backgrounds coming together to represent their country. In goal, Moketa Mamots’eare and Tana Lipuo will provide a solid defense for the team. The backline will be led by Sepiriti Mahali and Lekote Tebello, who will be supported by Chalatsane Karabo, Hlalele Kahliso, Maputle Rets’epile, Dimbane Lineo, Mokherane Itumeleng, and Nthako Limpho. The midfield will be commanded by Makhetha Rapelang and Ndabambi Relebohile, with Rethabile Mothata, Thato Lebeta, Lineo Sekhonyana, Bolaoana Rasetala, and Keabetsoe Mothala providing support. Up front, Limpho Mofana, Karabo Mabeleng, and Tholoana Ts’oaeli will be the attacking force for the team.
