Mokhotlong

Mokhotlong-based Mzamane Football Club (FC) is gearing up for an exhilarating debut in the Vodacom Premier League (VPL) as they face off against reigning champions Bantu FC this weekend. This opening match marks a significant milestone for Mzamane FC, who will compete at the highest level of football in Lesotho for the first time in their history.

The encounter will take place at Mohale’s Hoek District Football Association Ground, providing Mzamane FC an opportunity to showcase their readiness against a formidable opponent.

Mzamane FC’s head coach, Liteboho Ramantsoe, expressed his pride in the team’s journey to this point.“I am proud of my players for making it this far in what has been a tough journey,” Ramantsoe states. “We are ready to give these premier league clubs serious competition, and we expect the same from them. We’ve earned our place among the elite, and we’re determined to perform like a premier club.”

Mzamane FC’s first match against Bantu FC represents not only a test of skill but also a chance for the club to establish its identity in the league. Ramantsoe acknowledged the historical success of Bantu, saying, “We hold Bantu FC in high regard and admire their success in the premier league. But we are here to establish our own legacy, and we’re ready to compete. One of our key objectives this season is to secure our place in the VPL and continue building a stronger team.”

To prepare for this significant season, Mzamane FC has undergone considerable squad changes. The club made strategic decisions to strengthen their lineup by releasing three goalkeepers from their previous A-Division team and signing five key players from other premier league clubs. Ramantsoe believes these additions will enhance the team’s competitiveness.

However, financial constraints pose a significant challenge for the club. Ramantsoe candidly admitted that the inability to offer salaries has hindered their recruitment efforts. “We have struggled to attract new talent because we cannot provide competitive salaries,” he explains. “It’s tough to compete for players when the financial backing isn’t there.”

One critical factor in Mzamane’s FC potential success this season will be their home-ground situation. The club is currently awaiting an inspection of the Mokhotlong Pitso Ground by officials from the Lesotho Football Association (LEFA) club licensing committee.

“We have a good playing surface here in Mokhotlong, where we’ve hosted A-Division matches,” Ramantsoe mentions. “Although the ground doesn’t have fitted turf or grass, it is well-marked and has proper facilities for teams and spectators.”

If the Mokhotlong Pitso Ground is approved for use, it would greatly benefit the club’s financial situation. “Playing at our home ground would significantly boost our revenue through gate-takings, which is crucial since we don’t have official sponsors,” he said.

Conversely, should the inspection fail, Mzamane may face the daunting prospect of playing their home matches over 200 kilometers away in Maputsoe, Leribe. Such a development would not only deprive the team of vital home support but also escalate operational costs, complicating their ability to maintain competitiveness in the league.

Mzamane FC holds a special place in the football landscape of Mokhotlong, being the first club from the region to reach the premier league in recent years. Previously, Balefe FC came close to promotion but fell short, making Mzamane’s achievement a landmark moment for local football.

In preparation for their league debut, Mzamane has fostered strong community ties, partnering with local businesses such as Ntja-Mokoatle and Siea-O-Butse. These partnerships have been instrumental in providing support throughout the club’s journey, helping them navigate the financial hurdles of professional football.

As the opening match approaches, Ramantsoe and his players are focused on embracing the challenge that lies ahead. “We are here to compete, to learn, and to grow,” he affirmed. “The players are motivated and excited to showcase what they can do at this level. We aim to make our community proud and establish ourselves as a competitive force in the league.”

The excitement surrounding Mzamane FC’s inaugural season in the Vodacom Premier League resonates beyond the players and coaching staff; it has ignited passion among local fans eager to support their team. As the club embarks on this new chapter, all eyes will be on them as they take their first steps in the premier league against one of the strongest teams in Lesotho football.

In conclusion, Mzamane FC is not just looking to survive in the Vodacom Premier League; they are aiming to thrive, compete, and carve out their own legacy in Lesotho football. The journey begins this weekend, and the football community awaits with bated breath.
