In a significant move to bolster healthcare accessibility for children and youth, the Ministry of Health has unveiled a transformative Project named U-Report. This initiative in collaboration with United Nations International Children’s Emergency Funds, the United States Agency for International Development, and the Lesotho Sport Recreation Commission, is set to revolutionize the delivery of essential health services, with a strong emphasis on vaccination programs.

This launch of U-Report marks a pivotal step in addressing healthcare disparities and ensuring that the youth of Lesotho receive the medical attention they need promptly.

This partnership aims to leverage each organization’s strengths to create a comprehensive healthcare delivery system that addresses the unique needs of the younger population. By focusing on vaccinations and other critical health services, U-Report seeks to overcome existing barriers and ensure that every child and youth in Lesotho can access the care they require.

Deepak Bhaskaran, the representative from United Nations International Children ‘emergency Funds, emphasizes the fundamental right of every individual to receive adequate healthcare.” Every child has the right to access health services, and UNICEF is dedicated to supporting the government in scaling up these essential services,” Bhaskaran states. His remarks underscore UNICEF’s commitment to working with the government to expand healthcare access and address the needs of underserved populations.

Ian Membe, the Deputy Director for the USAID Lesotho, also expresses strong support for the U-Report initiative. He highlights the importance of the company’s efforts to strengthen youth health and ensure their well-being. “Our goal is to fortify the health of young people, and we will work tirelessly to ensure that their health is safeguarded,” Membe affirms. His commitment reflects the collective dedication of the organizations involved in improving healthcare outcomes for the youth of Lesotho.

LSRC President, Mots’eremeli Lits’itso recognizes the significant potential of the U-Report initiative to achieve its goals effectively. The president notes that sports events are powerful platforms for reaching large audiences, which can be instrumental in spreading health information and services. By utilizing sports events as a venue for healthcare outreach, this initiative aims to engage the community and enhance participation in health programs.

Honorable Motlatsi Maqelepo, the minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, has called upon the youth and children to actively participate in the U-Report project. His appeal is focused on encouraging greater involvement to reduce the incidence of communicable diseases and improve public health.” we urge the youth to embrace this initiative wholeheartedly and contribute to the reduction of disease rates through engagement and awareness,” Honorable Maqelepo states. His call to action highlights the critical role that community participation plays in the success of health programs.

The U-Report initiative is designed to address several key challenges in the healthcare system.
