-In a vibrant celebration of women’s contributions to sport and society, the Lesotho Boxing Association proudly hosts a fun walk from Setsoto Stadium to Maseru Mall in partnership with women from various sporting disciplines.

The event serves as a powerful statement on the importance of gender equality in sports and the crucial role women play in fostering economic growth and empowerment within the country. With every step, the spirit march is a poignant reminder that women’s voices and achievements deserve to be heard and celebrated.

The walk’s significance went beyond just a leisurely stroll; it is a symbolic gesture that highlights the Association’s commitment to promoting gender equality in sports and beyond. Recognizing the unique challenges faced by women in the sports world, the association sought to foster an environment where women could thrive and be valued for their skills and contributions.

Furthermore, by raising awareness about the importance of economic growth and empowerment for women, the association aims to break down barriers that often limit women’s opportunities in both the sport.

Mrs Makatleho Lefoka, the visionary organizer of the fun walk, emphasizes the importance of the month of August as a time to commemorate and celebrate the achievements of African women. By uniting women from different sporting disciplines, the walk symbolizes the power of sisterhood and solidarity, highlighting the need to champion women’s voices and stories.

She further explains that the previous year’s celebrations of African Women’s Month took place at Makoanyane Barracks. She appreciates Lesotho National Olympic Committee (LNOC) for the programs and training that empowers their skill in the sports.

The Lesotho Boxing Association’s decision to organize the fun walk not only celebrates African Women’s Month, but also serves as a catalyst for their broader awareness campaign for gender equality in sports.

The association recognizes that women’s participation in sports is often constrained by social and cultural factors, as well as lack of opportunities and resources. In a resolute stance against the scourge of gender-based violence, W/P/C ‘Mammiki Tšooana from Maseru Central says the police make a strong appeal for its eradication. The message, delivers with unshakable conviction, underscores the need for a concerted effort from all sectors of society to root out this deep-seated societal ill.

“Gender-based violence is a blight on society,” she says in a statement. They stand together and say ‘no more’ to this senseless violence.

The LMPS rightly points out the detrimental impact that parental discord can have on children’s well-being and development. When children are exposed to toxic environments, including verbal and physical abuse, it can lead to significant emotional and psychological damage.

The authorities called for parents to strive for peace and unity, emphasizing that the well-being of children should take priority over personal conflicts and disagreements. By working together to create safe, nurturing environments for children, parents can help to prevent long-term harm and lay the foundation for their children’s future success in school, sports, and beyond.

Hon. Voeswa Tsheka of Thuathe constituency No.26, in a powerful statement, issues a heartfelt plea for Basotho to reconnect with their roots and embrace traditional values.

We are so grateful to our coaches for their guidance and support,” said Ms Limpho Molepe, a participant in the fun walk. “Sports has given us a positive outlet and helped us stay away from destructive habits like drug abuse. It is so important to have something that keeps you busy and focused, especially when you are young and trying to find your way. I am proud to be part of this movement for women’s empowerment in Lesotho, and I know that our coaches and teammates are with us every step of the way.”

Today’s march was more than just a fun walk. It is a declaration of our commitment to uplift and empower women in Lesotho. Women are integral to society, and support them in every way possible. By celebrating women in sports, not only creating opportunities for women to succeed, but also setting an example for future generations.
