Maseru, Lesotho: Wednesday, 21 August 2024 – The PR and Brand Network, in partnership with The Market Restaurant, proudly presents “Portraits of a Nation,” a prestigious art exhibition celebrating the extraordinary legacy of Lesotho’s most revered surrealist artist, Meshu Mokitimi. Often hailed as “Lesotho’s Picasso,” Mokitimi’s influence has spanned over seven decades, leaving a profound impact on the cultural and political landscape of Lesotho. This landmark event will take place on Saturday, 28 September 2024, at The Market Restaurant in Maseru.

At 98 years old, Meshu Mokitimi continues to create timeless masterpieces that capture the essence of Lesotho’s rich heritage. His artistic journey, intertwined with his active role in the country’s fight for independence during the 1960s, makes this exhibition a compelling tribute to both his creative genius and his enduring legacy. Portraits of a Nation is a unique blend of art and history, offering a rare opportunity to witness the evolution of a national treasure.

Mokitimi’s work has long elevated Lesotho’s cultural profile on the international stage, and this exhibition aims to inspire future generations while fostering national pride and cultural unity. The PR and Brand Network and The Market invite individual and corporate partners to align with this significant cultural event, ensuring its success and celebrating the legacy of one of Lesotho’s greatest artists. A limited number of tickets are available, offering an exclusive chance to engage with this historic celebration of Lesotho’s art and heritage as well as an exclusive photo opportunity and meet-and-greet with Meshu Mokitimi.

Libe Mohale, founder of the PR and Brand Network, underscores the importance of honouring national icons during their lifetime. “We often wait until it’s too late to celebrate our legends. This exhibition is our way of shifting that narrative and propelling Lesotho’s art scene forward. By looking back at Meshu Mokitimi’s extraordinary contributions, we aim to inspire progress and pride for the next five to ten years,” Mohale stated.

Reflecting on his remarkable career, Meshu Mokitimi expressed his long-held vision for the arts in Lesotho: “Over my seven-decade journey as an artist, it has been my wish to see the arts in Lesotho not only celebrated but also recognized for their immense cultural and economic value. Art is a powerful medium for preserving the heritage and diversity of the Basotho people, and through this exhibition, I hope to challenge the misconception that art is not a sustainable career. My aim is to show that art can indeed be a vital contributor to our nation’s growth and identity.”

Portraits of a Nation is more than an exhibition; it’s a declaration that art is an essential pillar in the future of Lesotho.

Tickets are available for M 999 per person, with limited seats available. Don’t miss this once-in-a-lifetime event!

20% of the proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to a charity of Meshu Mokitimi’s choice.
