Born to Win
The purpose of competing is winning and dominating. Failure to win causes a lot of frustrations. It is written in our DNA that we were born to win. This explains why a person cries after coming as the second best competitor because the default setting for every one of us is victory and dominion. Victory is always special because it gives us an aura of invincibility and a huge sense of accomplishment but neither can happen without good work.
Tebogo the African Hero
We are coming from an interesting Olympic week where Tebogo Lesile from Botswana broke into the record books and won the first ever ➡200-meters Olympics gold medal by an African man. He dedicated the gold medal to his late mum, who passed on to glory in May. His mother was a pillar of strength and often pitched up unannounced in his big races. May her soul rest in peace. She truly gave the world an iconic champion who has become an Olympic champion at only 21 years of age. If he keeps his feet on the ground his greatness will be unrivaled in the continent. Botswana has become a trail blazer and a history maker because of Tebogo. President Masisi declared a holiday on Friday as he honored the heroic exploits of Tebogo. Not since the days of the legendary Frankie Fredricks of Namibia has Africa been this excited. I join the millions of brothers and sisters in Africa as we celebrate a son of the soil. It has been a long way in coming but the treasured 200 metres Olympic gold medal is finally here. What Fredricks could not do, young Tebogo has finally done it for the continent.
I am grateful for the win, but in the euphoria of the victory, l would love to share some leadership Nuggets. I always love to look at issues with a leadership bias.
Some leadership Nuggets
1. Results do not lie, there are no coincidences when it comes to results. The American brother Noah Lyles was beaten fair and square. Every dog has its day for sure .He was beaten by the better man on the day. Maybe someone should teach him the grace of humility in defeat.
2. A great performance is not only accomplished on the day of victory, but it is made behind the scenes in hours of blood, sweat, and tears. We need older athletes to mentor and coach the younger ones. Maria Mutola from Mozambique, also known as the Maputo Express had one Olympic gold medal but she coached Caster Semenya to two Olympic gold medals. This is the power of experience and mentoring.
3 Victory is a product of unbroken focus where all efforts are systematically coordinated until there is harmony. This means both leaders and athletes in Africa should be at peak performance. Success is a product of an enabling environment.
4. Efforts precede prosperity, so before we prosper, we need to put massive shifts. We ought to grow daily in our quest for greatness until we get to the top. Hard work eventually pays. Africa needs to step up on the sponsorship deals and holistic government interventions. Africa must learn to invest more in sports and less in guns, we are not at war.
5. Dominion does not happen overnight. It is built on precept upon precept and principle upon principle. Dominion is like a layer of onions, as you unearth others more keep coming hence it boils down to a game of excellence. Every precept honoured is a bedrock to the mountain of success which lies ahead.
6. Success is intentional. You need to build a holistic strategy that will feed into your big picture so that you accomplish your goals. The process is trackable and measurable, thus making it replicable. Success is therefore not by accident.
7. Never stop believing. Even if you fail to achieve today, do not give up, persist in your dream, fortune favor’s the brave. Be patient, Rome was not built in a day, but history records that it was built anyway.
8. Last but not least, have faith in Jehovah God, He has your destiny in the palm of His hand. Trust Him, and He will see you through. Remember God is not limited and is able to see you through in difficult times. With God all things are possible. God cannot fail you, He will never let you down, and all you need is trust in Him.
I pray that you have a great week and a successful week as you pursue your holy grail. Greatness is calling you. I hope you will answer her call.
May the leader in you rise to conquer? Christ remains the ultimate leader, follow Him and many will follow you.
Success is an attitude. Let us meet at the top, where you become the topic
