Maseru – Michelle Tau, Lesotho’s taekwondo sensation, has expressed her heartfelt gratitude to all those who supported her throughout her journey to the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. Although the outcome was not as she had envisioned, Tau remains proud of her achievements and is focused on the future.

“I want to thank everyone who supported me throughout my whole journey,” Tau said in a statement. “A special thanks to my mother, who sacrificed everything to make this dream of mine possible. I wanted to thank you with a medal, but it didn’t go as planned. I am sad and disappointed, but still proud of the work I have done. I trust in God’s plan for me.”

Tau also expressed her deep appreciation for her coach, Hugo Tortosa, acknowledging his hard work and encouragement. “It wasn’t easy, but I am grateful for all that you have done,” she noted.

Key contributors to her journey included Mchezo, whose support was instrumental in her qualification for the Olympics. “If it wasn’t for Mchezo, I probably wouldn’t have made it to the qualifications. With your help, I was able to qualify and represent my country on the world stage.”

Tau further thanked the LadyM Foundation, Alliance Insurance, LCA, LNDC, LNIG Hollard, IOC Solidarity, Basotho Diaspora Canada, and Adeaz for their financial support. “Your contributions helped me accumulate points, win medals, and ultimately qualify for the Olympics. I am truly grateful.”

Special mentions were also made for Issa Diakite and Mell Mina, who played crucial roles in her training. “Thank you, Issa, for all the training, support, motivation, and encouragement. Mell, your help in preparing me for the Olympics was invaluable.”

Tau extended her gratitude to her family, social media supporters, and all individuals who provided financial or emotional support, including those who preferred to remain anonymous. “Thank you to everyone who stood by me, protected me through my struggles and pains.”

Looking ahead, Tau remains determined to continue her taekwondo journey. “Now it’s time to focus on the future and find sponsors to prepare for the Grand Prix Final 2024, Grand Slam Qualification in December 2024, President Cup Africa 2024, and World Championships 2025,” she concluded.

With her eyes set on future competitions, Tau is ready to take on the challenges ahead, driven by the support of those who have been with her every step of the way.
