Maseru – The second leg of the Lesotho Institutions Sports Association (LISA) Games, held at Lesotho High School from the 9th to the 11th of August 2024, concludes successfully, showcasing the sporting prowess of 63 schools across 10 diverse sporting codes.

Sponsored by Econet Telecom Lesotho (ETL) with a remarkable M6 million contribution, the games mark a significant investment in the future of sports at the high school level. The event attracts notable figures including the Minister of Sports, Hon. Motlatsi Maqelepo, Econet CEO Mr. Dennis Plaatjies, and representatives from the Lesotho Sports and Recreation Commission (LSRC).

Minister Maqelepo praises ETL for their consistent support over the past three years, highlighting the critical role these games play in the development of young talent.

“We are eternally grateful to Econet for sponsoring the LISA Games. This support underscores our shared commitment to nurturing young talent and promoting sports as a vital component of youth development in Lesotho,” says Maqelepo.

Echoing this sentiment, Mr. Plaatjies emphasizes the transformative power of sports, noting that ETL’s investment is not just in the games, but in the future of the nation.

“Our investment in the LISA Games reflects our belief in the power of sports to transform lives. By providing young athletes with the platform to showcase their talents, we are contributing to both their personal development and the future of Lesotho as a nation,” Plaatjies states.

By investing in high school sports, ETL plays a significant role in the development and empowerment of young people. As it is well known that sports help students build discipline, teamwork, leadership skills, and a strong work ethic. These qualities are essential not only in sports but also in their academic pursuits and future careers. ETL’s investment ensures that Basotho youth are better prepared for the challenges of life, creating a stronger, more capable future workforce.

The three-day event features intense competition across various sports, including football, netball, handball, basketball, and volleyball. Victorious schools celebrated with medals and trophies, with standout performances in both individual and team categories.
