Maseru – Limkokwing University of Creative Technology (LUCT) hosts a three-day orientation program from 31 July – 01 August 2024 at Lehakoe Sports and Recreational Centre. The orientation is designed to help new students embrace the diverse cultures and route perspectives represented on campus.
Through the orientation, students have the opportunity to engage in thought-provoking discussions, participate in creative problem-solving exercises, and learn about the rich history and traditions of LUCT’s diverse student body.
According to Limkokwing University’s Registrar, Mateboho Moorosi, this orientation program is a unique opportunity for first-year students to explore their newfound freedom in a supportive and engaging environment.
“This is the first time that many students will be away from home and in charge of their own schedules,” says Moorosi. The goal is to adjust to the newly realized level of independence while familiarizing them to the resources and opportunities available as part of LUCT.
The orientation program not only benefits the students by helping them transition to college life, it also allows the University to reinforce a sense of community and shared sense of pride among the students. It provides students with a sense of belonging and chances to make lifelong friends and connections, which are essential to their success as asset networks at LUCT and beyond.
The orientation program is a foundation for students’ academic success, providing unique memories and means to enjoy the freedom and adventure that comes with being a college student. “These are the best years of your life,” says Moorosi. “Make the most of them by getting involved on campus, taking advantage of all the resources available to you, and most importantly, having fun.”
While the University encourages students to embrace their newfound freedom and enjoy their time on campus, the student body also urges students to make responsible choices. During the orientation program, students were reminded of the dangers of substance drug abuse and the importance of maintaining a balance between fun and responsibility.
“This is a time of exploration and self-discovery, but remember that your health and safety should always come first,” she says.
LUCT emphasizes the importance of respect and professionalism both in and out of the classroom. “Treating your lecturers and classmates with respect is an essential part of being a successful student, whose task is to impart educational knowledge,” continues Moorosi.
Advocate Tefo Macheli encourages students that they should shape their choices which are centered on the transformation they want. Students must embrace the education as the key of planning for the future.
Thabeng Rapitso from Ministry of Education and Training declares that 70% of people in the private sectors are Limkokwing alumnus who adapted the trending changes and economy.
Encouraging first- years to take responsibility for their own learning and creating an environment that supports their success is a critical part of a successful orientation program. Ms. Rethabile Moriana (first year student) appreciates the academic journey they are embarking and she is grateful for the guidance and advices that orientation highlighted.
Self-motivation and a supportive environment are essential ingredients for academic success, they are also key factors in overall well-being. The orientation program includes sessions on mental health and wellness, with the goal of helping students learn how to manage stress, maintain a healthy lifestyle, and seek support when they need it. Their mental health is just as important as their physical health
She says, in conclusion, Limkokwing University’s global network of campuses and international partnerships provides students with numerous opportunities to expand their horizons while gaining valuable experience.
“As a Limkokwing student, one opportunity that can help in building international friendship, scholarship, international recognition qualifications also take part of London classroom.”
Harnessing such opportunities is instrumental to challenging and growing both personally and professionally.
Tšeliso Kheleli, LUCT SRC President also on hand during the orientation to welcome new students and encourage them to get involved on campus. He expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming academic years and offered words of encouragement: ‘Welcome to Limkokwing! We are thrilled to have you here, and we look forward to getting to know you over the next few months. They should not be afraid to explore new interests, try new things, and make new friends as future is embraced.
While it is important as new students to get involved in campus life and social activities such as joining clubs, it is equally important to remember that academics should always be a top priority. It is important to balance academics and social life.
Students are encouraged to take ownership of their educational progress by establishing a study routine and finding a place on campus (library) that allows sufficient comfort and focus. When they have the right attitude and the right environment, they will be more likely to succeed in their courses and enjoy time at the University in their different academic years of completions.
