Quthing -Children from Quthing are thrilled to receive 4,000 pairs of school shoes, thanks to the Bothata Mahlala Development Foundation (BMDF). The Foundation, dedicated to empowering disadvantaged communities, identified Quthing as an area of need due to its high levels of poverty and remote location.
Mr. Bothata Mahlala, patron of BMDF, in his emphasizes the importance of keeping politics separate from charitable work. “Our goal is to improve the lives of disadvantaged people throughout Lesotho, regardless of their political affiliations,” stated Mahlala.
Mr. Mahlala urges donors and recipients alike to put aside political differences when it comes to providing aid to those in need. Mahlala emphasized the importance of focusing on the common goal of improving the lives of disadvantaged people throughout Lesotho, regardless of their political leanings or affiliations.
‘We must remember that poverty and inequality affect people from all walks of life,’ Mahlala said.
Bothata Mahlala’s personal background has played a significant role in his decision to establish the foundation. Growing up in poverty, Mahlala was often forced to walk barefoot to school, experiencing first-hand the hardships faced by disadvantaged children in Lesotho.
“I know what it’s like to go without the basic necessities in life,” Mahlala explained. “It breaks my heart to think that so many children still face these challenges today.
Mr. Mahlala’s vision of providing opportunity for all children highlights that despite the challenges of his own childhood, Mr. Mahlala has devoted himself to ensuring that today’s children do not have to endure the same hardships. He is determined to create opportunities for children, regardless of their background or financial situation, so that no child is left behind simply because their family cannot afford school fees or supplies.
In addition to his philanthropic efforts, Mr. Bothata Mahlala has also promises to personally sponsor the education of students who demonstrate exceptional academic performance and exemplary behavioural.
This adds incentive is intended to encourage students to work hard and strive for excellence, further contributing to the Foundation’s mission of empowering people.
Education is the key to unlocking a brighter future for the children. Mahlala’s personal journey and commitment to giving back to his community is a powerful message that inspires others to do the same.

Mrs. Refuoe Monare, principal of one of the schools that received shoes from the Bothata Mahlala Development Foundation (BMDF), expressed her gratitude to the Foundation. She stated that their children now have proper school shoes for the winter, benefiting the vulnerable families in need.
BMDF has been steadily increasing its impact on disadvantaged communities in Lesotho and the Republic of South Africa. During the event, Dr. Nko’s representative, Mr. Tumelo Taole, praised the Foundation’s work, saying, “Last year, the Bothata Mahlala Development Foundation gifted 1,000 pairs of shoes to children in need. This year, they have quadrupled their contribution to 4,000 pairs of shoes.”
Mr. Taole acknowledged the significant role that BMDF plays in bringing about social change and improving the lives of disadvantaged communities in Lesotho. He emphasized that by providing access to education and improving infrastructure, the Bothata Mahlala Development Foundation is making a substantial contribution to social and economic development in the country. Additionally, BMDF offers sponsorships to children in need.
One of the beneficiaries, Mr. Naleli Lebosa, expressed his gratitude, saying, “I am grateful that those children who did not have shoes can now continue their journey with the assistance of the Bothata Mahlala Development Foundation.”
The shoes they have provided are not only a necessity for students, but they also serve as a symbol of hope and inspiration. This act of kindness truly changes the lives of students and has instils in them the belief that anything is possible.
Representing the Ministry of Education (DEM), Mr. Lebohang Kala praises Mr. Mahlala’s efforts, stating that they are truly grateful to Mahlala and the Bothata Mahlala Development Foundation for their generosity. Not only have improved the lives of students, but he also invests in assisting in education by building them the school with required standards and specifications.
The Ministry of Education regards Mr. Bothata Mahlala as a valued partner in education. He has not only provided essential supplies to disadvantaged children, but he has also helped to address some of the challenges faced by teachers in Lesotho, such as a lack of adequate classroom facilities.
The lack of proper facilities is detrimental to both the learning environment and the well-being of students resulting into poor performance.
