TIA is inviting funding applications for locally developed Additive Manufacturing (AM) solutions aimed at enhancing the manufacturing competitiveness of South AfriCA.
This call also aims to strengthen AM accessibility and adoption in South Africa. Solutions supported by this call are expected to stimulate industry-led uptake of AM technologies. Applications are invited from any recognised South African legal entity, including start-up companies, small, medium and micro enterprises, private individuals, science councils and higher education institutions.
Call Specification
- The technological focus area is Additive Manufacturing, as follows:
- The development of local, “low-cost” additive manufacturing machines that are a feasible alternative to existing/conventional manufacturing technologies and processes.
- The development of local products that are additive manufactured, instead of conventionally manufactured, to improve competitiveness.
- Preference will be given to metal-based additive manufacturing solutions.
- High Priority Sectors are:
- Medical prosthetics and implants.
- Production of parts for hi-tech industries such as aerospace and automotive industry.
- Niche industries such as art/jewellery production.
Eligibility
Individual applicants must be South African citizens with valid identity documents.
- Must be registered or in a process of registering with the Companies and Intellectual Commission.
- Must be registered or in the process of registering on National Treasury’s Central Supplier Database
Requirements
- Demonstrate a viable, feasible and sustainable business case.
- Demonstrate a positive socio-economic impact.
- TRL 6 or higher, ready for deployment at pilot or commercial scale
- Not more than 2 years to realise market uptake, from start of TIA funding.
- Must have an industry or commercialisation partner. Must demonstrate proof of commercial interest and/or uptake.
