As the Ministry of Health went all out to screen, educate and offer oral health services to those that need them across Lesotho in commemoration of Oral Health Awareness 2023, telecommunications giant Econet Telecom Lesotho extended a hand to the Ministry’s Oral Health Department in Thaba-Tseka in its efforts to promote oral hygiene across nine schools and communities in the district from August 28 to September 1 under the theme, “Protect your teeth and avoid tooth loss.”
To make this commemoration a success, Econet Telecom Lesotho donated toothbrushes and toothpastes worth M10, 000 to the Thaba-Tseka District Health Management Team (DHMT). Oral Health Awareness is earmarked to help upscale and intensify the provision of Oral Health services at community level and also offer these services at grassroots level for free. This year’s commemoration of Oral Health targeted primary and high school pupils as well as herd boys.
“We are incredibly overjoyed as Econet Telecom Lesotho to extend a hand and support an initiative of this magnitude that will help improve oral hygiene for the residents of Thaba-Tseka and the students from the participating schools,” said Econet Telecom Lesotho’s GM – Marketing Communications and Customer Experience Ms. Mapusetso Nts’ekhe while reflecting on Econet Telecom Lesotho’s support to this noble initiative.
Mrs. Nts’ekhe went on to further express her delight that through Econet Telecom Lesotho’s compassion, the disadvantaged groups such as herd boys and children from poor backgrounds were afforded access to toothbrushes and toothpastes to help improve their oral health for the better.
On his part, Dr. Oluseye Soyebo of the District Health Management Team (DHMT) thanked and applauded Econet Telecom Lesotho for this generous donation, noting that most families in the districts are struggling to make ends meet. He indicated that these basic oral health necessities made available through Econet will very soon make a huge difference in the lives of the targeted groups.
Teachers from Bocheletsane Combined School commended Econet Telecom Lesotho and the Thaba-Tseka DHMT and Econet Telecom Lesotho for proving resources and making time to offer these valuable services to the school kids. They furthermore indicated that screening services and oral education offered will contribute massively to the work they are doing of encouraging their students to lead healthy lifestyles notwithstanding the challenges they endure at home.
Econet Telecom Lesotho’s bold step to support the commemoration of Oral Health Awareness 2023 is testament to the telecommunications giant’s continued drive to rigorously participate in efforts that improve Basotho’s wellbeing across the Mountain Kingdom and also underscores the values to which ETL holds very dearly.
