Menstrual hygiene day is celebrated every year on the 28th May. It is a chance to highlight the importance of menstrual care and raise awareness about the issues faced by those who don’t have access to sanitary products ,safe hygienic spaces to use and the right to manage menstruation without shame or stigma. In 2023 the world will be celebrating menstrual hygiene day under the theme “making menstruation a normal fact of life by 2030.”
In celebration of menstrual hygiene day BAM group foundation will be giving hygiene packages to girls at Lithoteng Maseru, Tsitsa Lebaleng at 2pm to 5pm on the day of the celebration.
Although they will be celebrating menstrual hygiene day Mrs. Mahlonolofatso Tšepang Tšita-Mosena BAM group foundation ambassador said there are many activities that will be done at this event as they will be talking about family support where families will be taught how they can support and treat girls who are on her periods.
She said they do not expect an event to be too big but would be glad to see many people in attendance. The events caters for people of different ages as they will be teaching about different topics such as gender based violence as it affects all communities. They are going to select needy girls around the villages with the help of the chief of the area as he is the right person to know who needs help the most in the village. BAM group members from Lithoteng will help with the selection of those privileged girl around the area.
This is not the first BAM group foundation event that brings gives back to the community as the event of this kind was once held in Khubetsoana and Machache. Although they knocked many doors looking for sponsors they had not received any replies hence the hygiene packages will be provided by BAM group. Since the event welcomes all, attending people are also allowed to bring sanitary towels as part of their support.
There will be a community engagement sharing information on how ladies can deal with periods and how people living with them can treat them as well. Since there will be gathering of people BAM group foundation will take advantage and engage with people, educating them about their rights which is very important for people to know.
