The Road Fund Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mr. Nkekeletse Makara has been elected as the new Chairperson of the Road Funds regional body known as the ARMFA Southern Africa Focal Group (ASAFG), during the recent regional meeting held in Lusaka, Zambia.

This is a great achievement, yet again, for the Road Fund in Lesotho to be part of the Executive Committee of the regional body for another two years, as Mr. Makara served as the Vice Chairperson of ASAFG in the past two years.

Delivering his vote of thanks, Mr. Makara thanked the ASAFG members for entrusting him with the mammoth task, further expressing his commitment to perform to the best of his ability to lead for growth and betterment of ASAFG.

He said he has learnt a lot during his tenure as Vice Chairperson, adding that the Southern Africa Focal Group is one of the strongest in Africa, and this is due to the solidarity that reigns within the member countries.

“I believe that united we can achieve a lot through our consolidated efforts as the region to ensure value for money in undertaking our mandate to finance maintenance of roads within our various countries and within the region,” he concluded. The Chairperson will serve for a period of two years. He succeeds the Road Fund Mozambique CEO Professor Angelo Macuacua. The ASAFG meeting was attended by Angola, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia and Zambia.

Meanwhile, this was the first ASAFG meeting in 2023 convened with the purpose to jointly prepare for the upcoming Annual General Assembly to be hosted in Maputo, Mozambique from April 03 to 06, 2023.

The Meeting is convened under the mother body known as African Roads Maintenance Funds Association (ARMFA) through its Southern Africa arm known as ASAFG (ARMFA Southern Africa Focal Group).

The ASAFG meeting is hosted at least twice a year and it rotates amongst members. It is a platform for collaboration and concerted efforts amongst members, the last ASAFG meeting was hosted by the Road Fund in Angola.
