The African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5, has organized a youth tournament on various sporting codes, where Lesotho is a participant. The tournament kick-started last week on 2nd December and will end on the 11th December 2022.
The AUSC Region 5, previously the Supreme Council for Sport in Africa (SCSA Zone VI) youth games is a high profile sport competition and a multi-cultural exposition for the African Union region 5. The games provide an opportunity to strengthen sport development in the participant’s jurisdiction and to promote the benefits of sport and healthy life styles, build partnerships and promote culture and values.
Although team Lesotho was marred with controversy concerning their departure in order to participate in the competition, the team managed to arrive in Malawi through a Bus due to unavailability of funds as reiterated by the minister of sports, Pitso Lesoana. Team Lesotho arrived late and forfeited a taekwondo Match and thus far has only participated in women’s volleyball match where Mozambique defeated Lesotho by 3 – 0.
Team Lesotho, comprise of 44 athletes and 4 officials. Team Lesotho will only be represented in four sporting codes which include, boxing, taekwondo, women’s volleyball and Athletics.
