The general public is hereby notified that, as part of the efforts to fight money laundering and combat terrorist financing, any person, entering or departing the Kingdom of Lesotho at any port of entry or departure as the case may be, should declare currency or bearer negotiable instruments in his or her possession if the value of the currency or bearer negotiable instrument is equal to or above the amount of Twenty Five Thousand Maloti (25,000.00). The declaration is made by filling an application Form obtainable at the ports of entry or departure as the case may be, at Customs Offices. The declarations are made pursuant to the provisions of the Money Laundering and Proceeds of Crime Act No. 4 of 2008 as amended by the
Money Laundering and Proceeds of Crime (amendment) Act No 7 of 2016, and read with the Money Laundering (Currency and Bearer Negotiable Instruments Declaration) Regulations, 2015 (Legal Notice No.68 of 2015) as well as Declarations of Currency Notice, 2014 (Legal Notice No. 34 of 2014).
The effective date to start making declaration is the 1st March, 2017.
